Anslem Oshionebo, the Dallas-based philanthropist, engineer and chartered accountant behind the Anslem Esi Foundation, received the Immigrant Professional Excellence Award at the 2020 Immigrant Journey Awards in Dallas, Texas.

The Immigrant Journey Awards are presented by Badmus & Associates, a Dallas immigration law firm, and celebrate outstanding immigrant entrepreneurs, professionals, community leaders and advocates across North Texas. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 ceremony was held virtually on Thursday, 17 September 2020, streamed on Facebook Live and Zoom as part of Dallas Welcoming Week under the theme "Creating Home Together".

Excellence that serves others

The award recognised a journey that began in Nigeria, where Anslem trained as an engineer and worked in oil and gas and construction management, and continued through PwC in Nigeria and the United States to senior leadership in finance and technology. Alongside that career he has given steadily to his communities: desks and learning materials for primary schools in Edo State through the Anslem Esi Foundation, and, in Dallas, teaching preschoolers at his church and coaching youth soccer.

"I accepted this award on behalf of every immigrant who gives twice: to the community that welcomes them and to the one they came from," Anslem says. "Excellence matters most when it opens doors for others."
